With online dating being the norm and Apple getting in the game with their Dating DNA iPhone/iPad app, it would seem that everyone should be savvy regarding online dating. The 20-somethings have grown up with online dating, but those who have either just divorced or have lost a spouse are probably venturing into new territory. For those of you who are venturing out there for the first time, here are some tips to keep you safe and successful. For the rest of you, think of these as a refresher course.
Online Dating
One of the hardest things to do when getting started with online dating is that pesky “Tell them about yourself” part. There are some things you want to share – like hobbies, foods, places you’ve traveled – and some things you don’t want to share – like your address, phone number, where you work, or that you have problems with incontinence. If you are having trouble with this part, ask a younger coworker or relative to help.
Be honest in your profile, and expect honesty from others. Don’t use a picture that shows you 10 years younger and 20 pounds slimmer. And beware of those who don’t have a picture posted. If they are too embarrassed to put their picture up, you probably don’t want to date them.
Watch Out for Scams
Do not send anyone any money! There are scammers out there who will hook you in, then all of a sudden have a crisis and need money, as much as you can send. Under no circumstances wire money. It is a scam.
